Introduction
Ning Li’s working life did not end with a documented disappearance. According to the most detailed public account of her later years, based on an interview with her son George Guangyu Men, it ended after a devastating road accident in Huntsville in 2014. According to that account, Li continued going to work at Redstone Arsenal until 2014. Then, while crossing a street on the UAH campus, she was struck by a vehicle. The consequences were severe: Logan reports that the accident caused permanent brain damage and that Li received an Alzheimer’s diagnosis shortly afterwards. The accident also had an extraordinary effect on her family. Li’s husband of 46 years witnessed the collision and, according to their son, suffered a heart attack at the moment he saw the impact. That distinction is important when assessing evidential strength. There is strong family-sourced reporting that the collision occurred and permanently disabled Li, reinforced by later secondary accounts that trace the information back to the 2023 investigation. But the publicly accessible sources found for this account do not supply an original 2014 collision report, name the driver, give the precise date of the accident or document a criminal finding of deliberate harm. Claims that go beyond the reported accident therefore require evidence that the present public record does not provide.
Her injuries ended the career that public records could not explain
The accident explains the final, irreversible end of Li’s working life, but it should not be confused with the earlier end of her public scientific career. Those are separate points on the timeline.
Li had already largely disappeared from open publication years before the collision.
