Which Threats Count as Strong Evidence?

Introduction
Alleged threats against UFO, unconventional-propulsion and antigravity researchers matter only to the extent that they can be independently tested. A warning recorded before a death can be important evidence; a threatening story first recalled years afterwards is much weaker. The strongest cases preserve dates, original messages, identifiable senders or witnesses, and external records showing that the threatening event actually occurred.
Amy Eskridge is the clearest modern example of why those distinctions matter. Her antigravity interests and public research role are independently documented, and evidence now attributed to the weeks before her 2022 death includes messages in which she explicitly anticipated reports of suicide. Yet the more dramatic claim — that a particular aerospace interest was responsible for threatening or killing her — remains substantially less well corroborated.[hal5.org]Eskridge worked publicly on antigravity-related subjects:Open source on hal5.org.
The central question, therefore, is not simply “Did the researcher say they were threatened?” It is: What exactly was recorded, when was it recorded, who possessed it at the time, and what independent evidence identifies the threatening party?
Contemporaneous threats carry more weight than later recollections
Threat evidence falls on a spectrum. At the strong end is an original email, text, voicemail, letter or police report created before the disputed event, preferably retained with metadata and independently authenticated. A contemporaneous diary entry or statement to several identifiable people is somewhat weaker but still potentially significant. At the opposite end is a second-hand recollection first made public years later, especially when the witness cannot produce the original communication.
This distinction is particularly important in UFO and antigravity cases because stories often acquire details as they circulate. A researcher may originally have expressed general anxiety about secrecy, espionage or professional suppression; later retellings can convert that anxiety into a specific prediction of murder. The evidential task is to reconstruct the earliest available version rather than treating all later versions as equivalent.
Eskridge illustrates both sides of this problem. Her connection to unconventional propulsion is not retrospective folklore. The Huntsville Alabama L5 Society advertised her December 2018 presentation, “A Historical Perspective on Anti-Gravity Technology”, identifying her as president and co-founder of the Institute for Exotic Science. Likewise, her death itself is firmly dated. Her published obituary says Amy Catherine Eskridge died on 11 June 2022 at 34 and describes her as chairwoman and president of the Institute for Exotic Science. The potentially significant material comes from communications attributed to Eskridge shortly before her death. In 2026 reporting, Franc Milburn, who describes himself as a former British intelligence officer, said Eskridge had told him that reports of her dying by suicide should not be believed. The Guardian reported the existence of this allegation while appropriately distinguishing Milburn’s account from an established finding about the cause of death.[The Guardian]theguardian.comOpen source on theguardian.com.
That is evidentially different from somebody remembering decades later that a researcher once seemed frightened. If an original May 2022 message can be authenticated as Eskridge’s, it establishes something quite specific: before her death, she believed that a future death reported as suicide might be suspicious. It does not, by itself, establish that her belief was correct.
Amy Eskridge shows why provenance matters
A useful threat assessment separates three questions that are easily merged: whether the researcher expressed fear; whether somebody actually threatened or harassed them; and whether the threatening party was responsible for the later death. Evidence establishing the first proposition does not automatically establish the second or third.
Publicly circulated copies of messages attributed to Eskridge contain considerably than her earlier general remarks about researchers being suppressed. They describe alleged surveillance, people approaching her in public, anonymous communications encouraging suicide and an encounter in which an unidentified person supposedly demonstrated knowledge of her technical work and threatened that a group would publish and patent it first. These messages are potentially important because of their dates, but their online reproduction is not equivalent to forensic authentication. Ideally, investigators would obtain the original device or account records, message identifiers and timestamps, establish the chain of custody, confirm the recipient possessed the messages before 11 June 2022, and compare them with any provider records or backups. Screenshots published later preserve information, but they are inherently easier to alter, selectively crop or misdate than source data.
This distinction also protects against a subtler problem: accurately reproducing what Eskridge believed is not the same as independently corroborating the events she described. If an authentic message says strangers followed her, it proves that she reported being followed at that time. To establish the following independently would require evidence such as CCTV, witnesses, vehicle records, photographs, access logs or communications from the alleged participants.
The same principle applies to her reported warning about suicide. Reporting has reproduced a message attributed to 13 May 2022 in which Eskridge emphatically denied that she would kill herself or deliberately overdose. That is much more probative of her state of mind before death than a friend’s later claim that “she would never have done it”. But even a fully authenticated statement of that kind cannot override physical evidence about a death. People can misjudge future behaviour, misunderstand threats or deliberately conceal intentions. Attribution is the harder test
The evidential gap becomes much larger when a claim moves from “Eskridge believed she was being targeted” to “a particular aerospace organisation targeted her because of her propulsion research”.
That stronger allegation entered a prominent public record through Michael Shellenberger’s written material submitted to a US House Oversight hearing. Its appended UAP timeline says that Milburn claimed Eskridge was attacked with directed-energy weapons and murdered by a private aerospace company because of her UAP involvement and advanced-propulsion work. The status of that document needs careful wording. Appearance in congressional testimony means the allegation is preserved in an official congressional publication; it does not mean Congress independently verified it. - A private aerospace company was responsible: presently an attribution largely dependent on Milburn and related accounts, rather than publicly available records identifying a company and demonstrating its involvement.
