What Does Amy Eskridge's Warning Actually Prove?
Eskridge's reported warning can establish prior fear, but it does not by itself prove that her death was caused by an attacker.

Introduction
Amy Eskridge’s reported pre-death warning is significant because, if the messages are authentic, it establishes something unusually specific: weeks before her death, she was telling another person that she feared a future suicide or overdose account would be false. That makes the warning relevant evidence about Eskridge’s own beliefs, fears and stated intentions before she died. It is a legitimate reason to scrutinise the circumstances of her death rather than dismissing the message as irrelevant.
But the warning has a firm evidential limit. It does not, on its own, establish that Eskridge was actually being targeted, that an attacker killed her, or that her antigravity research supplied the motive. Those propositions require independent corroboration. What the May 2022 message reportedly said
The key material is a message dated 13 May 2022, attributed to Eskridge and reportedly sent to Franc Milburn, a former British paratrooper and intelligence officer who says he was in regular contact with her. In the version subsequently published by several outlets, Eskridge wrote: “If you see any report that I killed myself, I most definitely did not.” The longer reported message also rejected a future account in which she had overdosed or killed somebody else. The message did not appear in isolation. Other communications attributed to Eskridge describe what she regarded as escalating harassment. Messages subsequently shared online by her associate Samuel Reid reportedly said she was receiving repeated death threats connected, in her view, to her recent theoretical work. That surrounding material matters because it makes the 13 May statement more than a generic remark about mortality. Taken at face value, it belonged to an existing narrative in which Eskridge believed she was being threatened. Reports also attribute to her allegations of surveillance, break-ins and attacks using directed energy. Those allegations, however, occupy a different evidential category from the fact that she made them. There is also a provenance issue. The public largely encountered the messages through associates, screenshots and later media reporting rather than through a publicly released law-enforcement extraction of Eskridge’s devices. Some material shared on social media was subsequently deleted. Which claims the warning directly supports
The safest conclusion is also the most important one: the reported warning is evidence that Eskridge was expressing both fear of harm and an intention not to die by suicide. If its authorship and date are authenticated, those propositions do not depend on accepting her explanation for why she was afraid.
There is a useful legal analogy. Alabama Rule of Evidence 803(3) recognises statements reflecting a person’s then-existing state of mind, emotion, intention or plan, while expressly distinguishing those statements from memories or beliefs offered to prove that the thing remembered or believed actually occurred. Applied cautiously rather than as a claim about admissibility in any hypothetical case, the distinction is straightforward. Eskridge saying, in effect, I am not planning to kill myself and I fear that my death could later be represented that way is evidence concerning her state of mind. It does not automatically establish the external proposition someone is going to murder me and disguise it as suicide.
The US Supreme Court confronted the underlying evidential problem in Shepard v United States. The Court distinguished statements capable of showing the deceased person’s state of mind from accusations being used to establish another person’s conduct. Eskridge’s warning therefore supports several propositions of differing strength. It strongly supports the conclusion that she was expressing an expectation of remaining alive rather than an intention to kill herself, assuming the message is authentic. Together with her other reported communications, it supports the conclusion that she believed herself to be under threat. Its proximity to her death makes those statements potentially important investigative leads.
What it does not directly establish is equally important. It cannot tell investigators whether Eskridge’s perception of the threat was accurate, who was responsible for any genuine harassment, whether her research motivated it, or whether another person caused her death.
Nor is the May message automatically a “dying declaration” in the legal sense. That phrase has a much narrower meaning than it does in popular discussion. In Shepard, the Supreme Court stressed that the traditional exception requires a settled expectation that death is imminent. Why “she said she would never do it” is not conclusive
The intuitive force of Eskridge’s warning comes from the apparent contradiction between the reported message and the subsequently reported finding of suicide. But contradiction is not the same as proof of homicide.
A pre-death denial of suicidal intention can be relevant to assessing suicide, particularly when it is contemporaneous and independently authenticated. It cannot establish with certainty what the person’s mental state was at a later moment. Human intentions can change, sometimes rapidly, and a message establishes what somebody communicated at the time it was sent rather than guaranteeing all of their subsequent behaviour.
The opposite error should also be avoided. An official suicide determination does not logically make an earlier warning meaningless. If Eskridge really sent the May message, an investigator assessing the death would reasonably want to know why she sent it, whether the threats she described existed independently of her perceptions, and whether any physical or digital evidence corroborated them. The correct evidential response is therefore neither “the message proves murder” nor “the suicide finding proves the message is irrelevant”.
There is an additional counterweight in this particular case: Eskridge’s own family has rejected the suspicious-death interpretation. That family position does not disprove the warning or demonstrate that every threat Eskridge reported was imaginary. It does, however, prevent a responsible account from presenting the homicide interpretation as uncontested among people close to her. What would be needed to support a homicide claim
Moving from “Eskridge predicted that a suicide account would be false” to “Eskridge was murdered and her death was staged as suicide” requires evidence connecting an outside actor to the death itself. The warning could become substantially more probative if it formed one part of such a chain, but it cannot supply the missing links.
The highest-value corroboration would include authenticated original communications with complete metadata; contemporaneous reports to police, doctors or other independent parties; identifiable threatening communications traceable to particular senders; surveillance or access records placing a suspect near Eskridge; and forensic evidence inconsistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Claims about directed-energy attacks would likewise require medical or physical evidence capable of distinguishing such an attack from alternative explanations.
The publicly available record is notably thinner at precisely this point. Recent reporting repeatedly describes Eskridge’s death as officially ruled suicide by self-inflicted gunshot wound, yet searches of the public reporting have not produced a released comprehensive police investigative file or autopsy report through which outsiders could independently examine the forensic basis of that determination. The same caution applies to Milburn’s report that he spoke to Eskridge only hours before her death and perceived nothing unusual. That recollection is relevant testimony about how she appeared to one contact shortly beforehand. It is not a clinical assessment, and it cannot establish what happened during the intervening hours. What the warning actually proves
Eskridge’s reported message deserves a narrower but firmer place in the evidence than either extreme of the debate usually gives it. Assuming authentication, it is strong evidence that on 13 May 2022 she was expressly rejecting suicide and communicating concern that a future death might be misrepresented. That is enough to make the warning relevant. It is enough to justify asking whether the dangers she described were independently investigated and corroborated. It may also be relevant when evaluating the reported suicide determination.
It is not enough to identify an attacker, establish an antigravity-related motive or prove homicide. The distinction matters because otherwise Eskridge’s warning becomes circular evidence: the belief that she was being targeted is used to prove that targeting occurred, and her subsequent death is then used to prove that her original belief was correct.
The strongest evidence-based formulation is more restrained. Amy Eskridge reportedly feared before her death that she might be killed and her death portrayed as suicide. The existence of that prior warning is itself potentially significant; whether the threat she feared actually caused her death remains unproved in the publicly available evidence. That unresolved gap — between documented or reported apprehension and independently demonstrated causation — is precisely where any serious assessment of the Eskridge warning has to stop.
